Free YouTube tools for analytics and video review
Start with YouTube Studio for free basic analytics, including views, watch time and audience retention. Add VidCC's Free plan when you want help reviewing what happens in the footage. VidCC requires no credit card to start and includes a limited, one-time AI allowance that does not reset.
YouTube Studio for basic analytics
YouTube Studio is the first place to review your channel and individual videos. Its analytics include views, impressions, click-through rate, watch time and average view duration, with audience and traffic context where data is available.
Open a video's audience-retention report to see how viewing changes over its duration. Inspect the opening, dips and moments viewers revisit, then watch the footage at the point you want to understand. Retention processing can take time, and some reports or segments may be unavailable.
If you are comfortable watching the footage and choosing your own edits, these native reports may cover what you need. The Studio comparison explains where VidCC adds video-context review.
VidCC Free for video retention review
VidCC keeps measured retention beside the playable video. Its main offering is analysis of what happens around notable moments, with possible explanations and editing options you can discuss with Viddy.
Free users can view available measured retention and video metrics before running AI analysis. Viewing these metrics does not spend the AI allowance. Availability still depends on the data YouTube supplies.
Start through Google sign-in and connect your YouTube channel. No credit card is required for the Free plan. AI use draws from a limited, one-time allowance that does not reset. Analysis and assistant use share the account's allowance across connected channels, so there is no fixed number of free analyses for every creator.
Check the available usage in your workspace before starting. Video length, the available model and the amount of assistant use affect consumption. Free access is limited; analysis still requires a supported public video with usable measured retention, and provider availability can affect processing.
Pulse for reviewing a new upload
Pulse check-ins require Plus or Pro. Free accounts can preview Pulse and read past reports, but new check-ins are paused. On paid plans, Pulse schedules retention check-ins at 48 hours and seven days, compares the upload with similar earlier videos from your own channel, and keeps your saved editing test beside the result.
Pulse's numeric reports do not themselves use AI, but AI tips and the one-time look back use your paid plan's allowance. Running AI video analysis or using Viddy is a separate action that uses the allowance. Reports can wait for usable YouTube data and processing availability; the check-in time is not a guarantee that a report will be ready at that exact hour.
Optional free tools for research and packaging
vidIQ has free-to-start tools for keyword ideas, titles and thumbnail work. TubeBuddy also has a free entry point for its creator extension. Both limit free access, and advanced features or higher usage can require a paid plan. Check each product's current terms before building your workflow around a particular feature.
Use research and packaging tools to prepare the viewer's question and promise, then review your own measured retention after publishing. The vidIQ and TubeBuddy workflow pages explain how to use those tools alongside VidCC without a product integration.
A simple workflow without a paid subscription
Write down the question
Choose one part of the video to review, such as whether the opening delivers the title's promise. Keep your packaging and editing notes together.
Check the native data
Use YouTube Studio for basic analytics and the measured retention curve. Wait for usable data rather than treating an empty graph as poor performance.
Inspect the footage
Watch the moment yourself. If you want another perspective and have available Free usage, open the eligible video in VidCC and review the analysis with Viddy.
Record one change to try
Choose an edit you can describe, then review a similar future upload. Keep the change in your own notes so you can review it alongside the next upload. A difference between uploads is an observation, not proof that the edit caused it.
How the Free allowance works
VidCC's Free plan has no paid subscription to start. Its AI allowance is limited and does not renew weekly; Plus and Pro have recurring allowances. Check the current pricing page and the usage guide for the account limits that apply to you.
You can still use YouTube Studio to inspect your analytics when you have no VidCC AI allowance left. No tool can guarantee retention gains, and AI explanations should be checked against the footage.
